About Mongolian Fold Formation (1) "Characteristics of the Inverted Z Method"

Dr Kuroda

Hello.
I am Dr. Kuroda, aka Dr. K, Deputy Director.

Really.Is it right for me?

I would like to have mongolian folds, but I don't know which technique is right for me."
We are sometimes asked the question.

Yes, I am. It is hard to understand, isn't it? Let me explain.
Some of the content is a bit difficult, but please do your best to follow along.
What are mongolian folds? If you are wondering, please refer to my previous column (https://ro-clinic.com/blog/9006/)
We hope you will refer to it.

At our clinic, you can choose between the "Inverse Z method" and the "VY method".
Once you understand the characteristics of each, you will know which technique is right for you.

The "Inverse Z Method."

The "inverse Z method" is characterized by
(1) Can produce mongolian folds
(2) If the craniotomy is done with Z-plasty, it can be restored to about 80% of its preoperative state.
(iii) Scars may be noticeable.
(4) Difficult to control fine enough to cover the lachrymal folds.

The following is a Each will be explained in depth.

Fat Mongolian folds can be produced
You mentioned that the mongolian folds gave a gentle impression and made you look young, didn't you?
If you want to regain your lost mongolian folds, the inverted Z method is right for you.

If a fatty eye incision is made with Z-plasty, it can be restored to about 80% of its preoperative state.
As the name implies, it is the inverse Z method, which means that the scar from the craniotomy can be cut back.

I guess I'm caught up on why you express yourself so cringeworthy as about 80%.
The process of wound healing causes human tissues to contract (called contraction).
So even if the craniotomy surgery could be completely reversed, it would not look exactly the same as it did before the craniotomy.
In some cases, tissue is removed even if the Z incision is performed, so even in those cases, the amount of tissue is different from before the incision and cannot be restored to the same level.

In cases where the Mongolian folds remain partially in place, the inverted Z method is often not indicated.

Fat scars may be visible
New mongolian folds are created by cutting the skin of the eye socket into a triangular shape and folding it into a hood.
The triangular cut-out area is closed with stitches, but this scar may be noticeable.

Difficult to control fine enough to hide the fat lacrimal folds.
The tear trough can be narrowed by about 1mm, but it cannot be adjusted as finely as with the VY method.

Now, the next step is to explain the "VY method," but this is getting long, so we will continue in the next issue.
