Time of corrective surgery

About Corrective Surgery

We offer revisions to surgeries performed by us as well as revisions to surgeries performed by other clinics.

The timing of when patients come to us for consultation varies from cases where only two weeks have passed since surgery was performed at another hospital to cases where several years have passed.

Some of the patients are

I want to have the revision surgery as soon as possible."

However, there is an appropriate time for revision surgery.

In this article, we will discuss the timing of revision surgery.

When corrective surgery can be performed

What makes corrective surgery possible,

Generally, "three to six months after surgery."

As a post-operative course of action

The first 1-2 weeks after surgery is a period of intense tissue swelling.

The first month after surgery is the peak of the scar contracture phase, when the scar is noticeably red and hard.

In the first 3-6 months after surgery, tissue swelling subsides and scar hardness and redness improve significantly.

Why you should allow time for corrective surgery

There are several reasons why you should wait three months for revision surgery.

Finish should be judged after the downtime is over.

During the downtime is a time of change toward completion. Even if you feel good immediately after the surgery, you may have some concerns after the surgery is completed. Conversely, the points that initially bothered you may settle into the desired shape as the swelling goes down and the scar becomes less noticeable.

Surgical manipulation is easier after tissue edema and stiffness have improved.

There are also opportunities to scalpel on tissue that is less than 3 months old due to unavoidable circumstances, but the edema is strong, the scar is fragile, and precise surgical manipulation is difficult.

In some cases, changes in appearance over time are acceptable.

If the patient still feels discomfort after 3 months, it is better to consider revision surgery to avoid undergoing unnecessary revision surgery.

Exceptions

There are exceptions to the timing of corrective surgery.

Cases that should be treated early include

Hematoma
Wound infection
Infection after insertion of prosthesis
Wound opened.

These may include.

In other cases, when there is a large left-right difference in eye opening at the time of suture removal for blepharoplasty, we may consult with the patient to decide whether to reoperate at 1 to 2 weeks postoperatively or after 3 months.

Conversely, cases where it is better to wait more than 6 months include

Scars are hard due to repeated revision surgeries.
... waiting a year or so, such as nasal surgery, is still expected to improve edema.

These may include.

Finally.

Some of the patients who come in for a revision surgery consultation are

I'll pay twice as much and I want the surgery done right away."
I take this at my own risk, and I need it fixed right away."

Some people strongly desire to make corrections without waiting for the appropriate time, such as

It pains me to see you in such pain, but as long as you undertake corrective surgery, the physician is responsible for your condition. It would be helpful if you could understand that there is an appropriate time for revision surgery.

It is advisable to consult with your surgeon regarding your condition during downtime within 3 months of surgery, but if you are considering a revision at our clinic, please consult with us as we will provide consultation even if 3 months have not passed.

As a rule, revisions to surgery performed at our clinic will be made after 3 months, but if you have any concerns about the progress, please come in for a checkup at any time.
