Fat Injection and Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction by fat injection

Fat injections are an option for those who wish to have breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery.
Breast reconstruction with fat injection alone or in combination with other procedures such as silicone bags or autologous tissue reconstruction is also possible. By combining these procedures, the disadvantages of each technique can be covered and a more beautiful breast can be reconstructed.

There are many options for breast reconstruction techniques and timing of treatment, so the choice of which technique to choose at what stage of treatment will be based on the status of breast cancer treatment and the size and shape of the breasts.

Treatment Details

As in the previous column, "Basics of Lipoaugmentation," liposuction is performed on the abdomen and thighs.
Fat injections are made at locations along the underline of the breast, at the nipple rim, and from scars after breast cancer surgery.
Since the fat retention rate from fat injections is roughly 30-50%, multiple surgeries are often performed. When multiple surgeries are performed, the treatment period for breast reconstruction is longer because the surgeries are spaced at least six months apart.

Currently, fat injections for postoperative breast cancer are self-funded (not covered by insurance).
However, the advantage of this surgery is that, unlike insurance-covered autologous tissue reconstruction, it can be performed using your own tissue with a small scar.

We are able to perform fat injections for postoperative breast cancer patients, and we would be happy to discuss this with you.
