The area of the nasal bridge where the bone protrudes forward is called the “hump”. A hump osteotomy (removal of the stepped nasal bones) is a surgical procedure that smoothes the natural line of the nose when viewed from the side. Instead of removing the protruding bone and cartilage, hyaluronic acid can be injected above or below the hump, or a prosthesis can be inserted to make the hump less noticeable.

Features of this hospital

If the hump is large, an incision of about 2 mm on the outside may be necessary to widen the osteotomy at the same time. The external scar is quite small and will not be noticeable after the surgery. The patient is then immobilized in a cast for 1-2 weeks to stabilize the nasal bridge.

Postoperative risks and side effects

-Philadelphia infection: If there is prolonged "heat," "redness," "severe pain," or "severe swelling" in the treated area after surgery, infection is suspected.

-Blood Blood pools.: After surgery, bleeding may occur in the wound and blood may pool. If blood accumulates, the nasal apex will swell to a purple color. If left untreated, the pooled blood can cause infection and thickening of the nasal bridge.

-Humps remain minor. Minor hump remains.: If not enough bone or cartilage is removed, a slight hump may remain.
Even if the bone and cartilage are straightened, it is rare that scar tissue forms and creates a bulge in the area that has been removed. If there is a leftover hump, the bone and cartilage will be surgically removed again once the swelling has completely subsided after the surgery.

-When the Retrogrades the effect of width (makes the nasal bridge look thicker): Depending on the original bone configuration and other factors, the fixation may loosen after the surgery, which may cause regression, or the effect may seem insufficient. In such cases, the nasal bridge may appear thicker. We may consider revision surgery while monitoring the patient's progress.

-Nasal obstruction (feeling of difficulty passing the nose) Nasal obstruction (feeling of difficulty in passing the nose): Narrowing the width of the nasal bridge results in a narrowing of the space inside the nose. In the early postoperative phase, the mucous membranes inside the nose may swell, causing the nose to feel less clear.
About 3-6 months after surgery, the swelling of the mucous membranes inside the nose recedes and there are usually no remaining problems with nasal passage.
