Nasal bone osteotomy widening

A nasal osteotomy is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of a large, thick nose to a thin, clean nasal bridge. It is sometimes performed at the same time as hump osteotomy surgery to thin and refine the nasal bridge.

Features of this hospital

We mainly use the close method of surgery in our clinic.
Surgery is performed through a 2 mm incision inside and outside the nose.
A 2 cm incision is made medially and an osteotomy is made.
A chisel is used to make a medial and lateral osteotomy on the nasal bone to create two bone fragments, which are then moved inward.
The nose is then immobilized in a cast for about 2 weeks to bring the nose in and stabilize it. Since the incision is made from the inside of the nose and 2mm outside, the scar is not noticeable.

At our clinic, we use 3D simulation software "vectra" before the surgery to show you a 3D image of the postoperative result, so you can visualize the postoperative result to some extent before the surgery.

Postoperative course and follow-up

Postoperative risks and side effects

-Philadelphia infection: If there is prolonged "heat," "redness," "severe pain," or "severe swelling" in the treated area after surgery, infection is suspected.

-Blood Blood pools.: After surgery, bleeding may occur in the wound and blood may pool. If blood accumulates, the nasal apex will swell to a purple color. If left untreated, the pooled blood can cause infection and thickening of the nasal bridge.

-Don't. Effects of wide backward, not enough: Depending on the original bone configuration and other factors, postoperative fixation may loosen, resulting in retroversion, or the effect may be insufficient. We may consider revision surgery while monitoring the patient's progress.

-Nasal obstruction (feeling of difficulty passing the nose) Nasal obstruction (feeling of difficulty in passing the nose): Narrowing the width of the nasal bridge results in a narrowing of the space inside the nose. In the early postoperative phase, the mucous membranes inside the nose may swell, causing the nose to feel less clear.
About 3-6 months after surgery, the swelling of the mucous membranes inside the nose recedes and there are usually no remaining problems with nasal passage.
