Gummy smile surgery (auricular cartilage graft)

The "gummy smile," which causes the gums to peek out when smiling, is improved by inserting auricular cartilage (cartilage behind the ear) into the border between the nose and upper lip.

An incision is made at the base of the back of the ear (auricle), and the auricular cartilage is grafted to the upper lip.
The auricular cartilage is inserted from the base of the nasal column to the upper lip to act as a pincer and reduce the exposure of the gums.

Postoperative risks and side effects

-Philadelphia infection
If there is prolonged "heat," "redness," "severe pain," or "severe swelling" in the treated area after surgery, infection is suspected. If infection is suspected, it may be necessary to remove the cartilage once.
